Home Owner Window Choices

Vinylume Products offers you a wide choice of windows in five (5) colors and three (3) finishes to suit your decor. While our windows are designed for quality, performance and durability, they also add beauty to your home. Read further to find out about the available window types we offer.

Window Types: You can choose from seven (7) series of windows, as well as a group of specialty shape windows, storm doors and patio doors. Four (4) series of windows, our Series 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 offer a "family" of windows. There's the Single Hung (Series 2000) which has one (1) sash that operates, sliding up and down and tilting in for easy washing of the outside glass. This series also offers slider windows which have one (1) sash that slides and can be removed for washing of the outside. Three (3) Double Hung series (the Series 1000, 3000 and 4000) provide you with a tilt-in sash for both the upper and lower sashes, which slide up and down. The slider windows of each of these three (3) series also permit all the sashes to move back and forth (or on Series 3000 to swing in). Your favorite contractor can tell you all about them.

Two (2) other series of windows are the Series 300 (Casement) and Series 350 (Awning) which are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Both series of windows open outward (English style); the Awning windows are hinged at the top so the bottom sweeps out and upward. The advantage to these windows is they can limit rain from a sudden, un-expected storm from coming in your home. In fact, they often can stop all or most of the rain from coming in. Casements on the other hand are higher than they are wide; being hinged on the side, so they open outward the same way a door would for maximum ventilation. The outside surface of the casement window can be cleaned from within your own home, by simply disconnecting the crank mechanism; re-connecting the crank mechanism is equally simple. Your contractor can provide these windows mulled (joined) in combinations of 2 or 3 (twin or triple casements).

Another series of windows is the Series 200 Storm Window line. We make either inside storms, which can be installed inside your home or the usual outside storms which are installed over your home's existing windows. Your contractor can tell you more about the double hung, slider, picture window (Single Light Reverse, Single Light etc).

In addition to the above seven (7) series of windows, we also offer two types of specialty windows. We divide them into two main groups. One group is made up of the Bay, Bow, Box Bay and Garden windows. The other group is made up what we call our Special Shapes.

The Bay, Bow, Box Bay and Garden windows are actually small structures with windows built into them as a part of that structure. The Bay and Box Bay both have three (3) windows in them while the Bow can have from three (3) to five (5) windows in it and the Garden window usually has four (4) windows in it. The Special Shapes windows come as circle tops, circles, triangles, octagons, cathedral windows trapezoids, eyebrows and quarter arches. These two groups of windows have their own purposes that they serve. Click on the various types of windows for information about them; then, ask your contractor for his professional opinion as to which one(s) are right for YOUR home.

Vinylume's storm doors and patio doors are also beautiful as well as practical. We offer a wide variety of Storm Doors to fit your needs, ranging from the # 200 Self-Storing to the # 140 One Light (or Full View) and a lot in between. Our patio doors are great looking units that will dress up your home while permitting you easy access to your patio/sun-deck.

Glazing Options: Glazing is what we call the way we assemble the glass combinations that we put into the windows and patio doors. In our storm doors and storm windows, we put a single piece of glass in. Technically, this is called "single glazing". When the customer has need of it, for a small extra charge, we can supply tempered glass in their storm door. This is a form of safety glass. For storm windows, when the customer requests it, for a really minimal charge, we can supply low-emissivity (Low-E) glass. Low-E glass helps cut down heat loss from your home's windows.

All our other windows and our patio doors are glazed with "insulated glass" (or IG's). An IG is nothing more than two (2) pieces of glass, separated by a small spacer that runs around the outside edge. The spacer (and the outer edge of the glass pieces) is sealed with a material that stops air and water from getting in AND/OR argon gas (if used) from getting out of the sealed unit. Until recent times, the two pieces of glass were usually clear float glass. Now, due to increasing energy bills, both during the summer (for air conditioning) and winter (for heating) many home owners are having their windows equipped with IG's that have one (1) piece of float glass and the other piece being Low-E, with argon gas being introduced into the sealed middle of the IG. Our Series 1000 Double Hung family of windows, when equipped with the affordable Low-E and argon gas option, become an Energy Star qualified which can help keep energy bills manageable for you. Ask your contractor about the Energy Star option.

Another item under the category of glazing options can add beauty to your home. Without diminishing the insulating value of the windows, we can provide you, at a modest cost, either colonial style (squares) or diamond pattern grids. Inserted INSIDE the glass unit, for quick and easy washing of the window glass inside and out, the grids (or "muntins") will give your home that distinctive look that will add to it's resale value. Grids (muntins) are beautiful in any window, but they really stand out in a Bay, Box Bay or Bow window.

Consider all the glazing options that Vinylume offers. Many of them will enhance your home-your greatest investment.

Colors and Finishes: Yes! You can get your Vinylume windows in a number of colors, besides the standard white. We offer the standard white in every series of window we make. At slight extra cost, you can get certain series windows in beige, brown, cream white and sand tone. Those series are: Series 1000 (Double Hung), Series 350 (Awning) and Series 300 (Casement).

The Series 1000 (Double Hung), Series 350 (Awning) and Series 300 (Casement) also have three finishes available. If you have a lot of wood trim decor in every room, then definitely look at these three (3) series of windows in one of these three (3) finishes: Think of Light Oak Wood Grain on White, if you want the traditional white windows outside your home and the look of wood inside your home. Or, you can get these windows in Light Oak Wood Grain on Beige. If your wood trim in your home is dark wood grain, we offer Dark Oak Wood Grain on White for you. Ask your contractor to show you a corner cut or sample of what these finishes look like; once you've seen them, you'll want them for your home. If the Series 1000 and Series 300 are used in our Bays, Box Bays, Bows and Garden Windows, the same color and wood grain options are available for them. This means you can get a Bay, Box Bay, Bow and Garden Window to match your home's inner decor and beautify the outside at the same time.

Our Series 2000 (Single Hung), Series 3000 (Welded Replacement) and Series 4000 (Welded New Construction), Series 200 (Storm) windows do not come with the wood grain finish option. Color-wise, they are available in the standard white and for a small extra cost, they are available in beige and brown. Don't worry. If you click on any of the window series, we repeat all the colors and finishes available there, too.

The Special Shapes, like the Bays, Box Bay, Bow and Garden Windows do not belong to any numbered series of windows. We offer them in the standard white, while the beige and brown are available at modest extra cost.

Patio doors are available in standard white, with beige and brown being available at slight extra cost.

Our storm doors come in two colors only: Standard white and optional extra cost beige.

Be sure to click on every one of the windows and doors offered to get all the information about them. Also, your favorite contractor can get you the information you need about our windows
