Home Owner Storm Windows
The Series 200 Storm Windows are not meant to replace the primary windows in the home, but to augment them. Storm windows are meant to work with the primary windows on the home. There are two (2) types of Storm Windows we make: Outside Storms and Inside Storms.
Outside Storms: These windows are single glazed (one pane of glass). They have thermally welded frames with integral nailing fins and mechanically fastened sash. The windows are measured and sized by your contractor, to be fastened over the primary window's opening. To fit the various types of primary windows, Vinylume offers matching Storm Windows.
Double Hung Storms. These have the same general shape as your primary double hungs. The difference is that Double Hung Storms have take out type sashes, rather than the tilt-in sashes that your primary Double Hung windows have. With DH Storm Windows installed over your Double Hung primary windows, your primary Double Hung windows will function normally.
Two (2) and Three (3) Section Sliders: These windows are similar to the two (2) and three (3) section primary windows, but they are single glazed and have take out sashes. Also, your Two and Three Section Sliders will function normally with our Slider Storm Windows installed over them.
Single Lite (Standard & Reverse) Windows: This is just another name for our picture window. The "Standard" means the sash is removable from the inside and the "Reverse" means the sash is removed from the outside. Single Lite Reverse Windows are usually mounted over primary Picture Windows; the sash can be removed from the outside to clean it and wash the outside surface of the Picture Window.
Basement and Casement Windows: These windows are designed to go over the Basement and Casement windows. They are also single glazed.
Inside Storm Windows: Unlike the Outside Storm Windows listed above, your contractor must assemble these storm windows on the job site, inside your home. There are the One Lite, similar to the Picture Window; the 2 and 3 Lite Sliders and the Double Hung.
As an option, your contractor can supply the Double Hung and 2 Section Slider Storms for you with Low-E glass. Although they are not the equal of a primary insulated glass window with Low-E and Argon gas, Storm Windows with Low-E do provide some amount of energy saving.
For the optimum effect, your primary windows should have Low-E with Argon glazing if you are considering adding Storm Windows with Low-E glass. In very cold climates, it is excellent.
Colors and finishes available: White is standard; optional at slight extra cost is Beige and Brown.
Sorry folks, but Wood Grain finishes are not available on the Storm Window Line.
